Happy Holidays

"Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop."- Ansel Adams
To my clients that have made my crops grow, I thank you.
My kids waited impatiently in the car, as it rained and I composed this shot in Pine Island. I bribed my husband with a breakfast sandwich to drive me to the black dirt in the early am. For those of you that know me I hate to drive especially in the rain, but I love the light before and during the rain.
A happy and healthy holiday to all.

the reception

The reception started as usual with a beaming couple sharing a dance with proud parents watching, but this bride had an awesome surprise for her husband. Accompanied by her brother on the guitar she sang to her groom. He was SO lovingly focused on her...clearly she was and is the only one in the room  for him. The celebration continues until the little one's dropped. Many wishes to the couple as they celebrate this Christmas season as husband and wife.

A nod, a glance and a smile.

The bride's parents & the new bride and groom. I think this is going to become a staple in my photographic practice. A slight nod to the past, while relishing in the present. A beautiful smile passed from one generation to the next.

and then they said I DO

Umm.. I see lipstick on the face... first photo... scroll up and look again. I went back and forth... photoshop it out or leave it in. Decisions...I will give the couple both versions, but I choose lipstick.  It's details like that that I fall in love with. Smiles, giggles and glances. Sun kissed faces.... the beginning of the love story

the NEW Mr. & Mrs. M getting ready

This gorgeous wedding day came shorty after Hurricane Sandy. The power had been restored to the area, but this wedding had a warm energy all of its' own.  I really love the getting ready shots, I think photographing this part of the day really adds to the story of the wedding day. There is so much joy, anticipation, nerves and laughter. I've started to fuse photographs of photographs in my shots, as I know that time seems to be moving faster as a Mom. I'm sure the parents of the couple feel like it went by in a blink....and it did. This quiet  groom couldn't help beaming and his gorgeous bride, well she gleamed with her witty, confident charm.

oh BOYzzz

These little men gave me a run for my money today, but that's ok it just makes the success so much sweeter. Did I wear comfy shoes..yes. Did I bring snacks..um yeah! As a mom of two little boys myself..I get it. You are exhausted. You ran around all morning, dressed them, changed them, washed their face and than raced to make your portrait time..the last thing you remember is a snack and sometimes the break, especially with the little one's, is what EVERYONE needs. You want the BEST picture EVER that somehow wraps up all the love you have for your little one's. Try not to worry if the shoot is chaotic I have been there, seen it and am not rattled..that crazy memory will fade, but these pictures of organized chaotic joy... yup they are yours forever! It is my pleasure watching these little guys grow.

The "S" family

The contrast between photographing all boys and than all girls never ceases to amaze me. As a mother of two little boys, I really welcome the opportunity to photograph little ladies. The bows, stockings and  shyness ..it's all so darn sweet and fascinating to me.  This is another group of photographs from this  weekend mini's. My love of photography at it's core is a love of history and storytelling. Visually preserving family history, with the goal of my images becoming heirloom treasures to pass down. I used to spend hours at my Grandmother's viewing old albums. It's one of my favorite memories with my Grandmother. While I do have all my images cyber stored, I always include prints in my packages because you need the print. I believe in the power of the tangible. Frame it, stick it on the fridge, paste it in a baby book. There is nothing digital that compares to an actual printed photograph. Can you even handle the baby blues and the knitted dresses.
