Black, White & Color

I used to only use black and white film for years. Flash forward 15 plus years and I find myself drawn to color images with a real limited palette that almost feel black and white...or at least that's what the limited color reminds me of. This was another from the beach mini's... It's a funny little expression, but there's something I like about it. Kinda like when a kids says something super ridiculous... this photo reminds me of the moment BEFORE the moment when some profound toddler knowledge is revealed.

Beach Mini Previews

I think the beach mini's were a huge success this year! The lighting was just AWESOME. I love the beach mini because when you actually go to the beach with children the last thing you can focus on is taking pictures (especially if you are as nervous as I am at the ocean etc. and have my kids in life jackets) Meeting at Wawayanda State Park, near the lake at sunset was a perfect solution. I believe we got the feel of the shore or Nantucket in our own back yard. I am not a huge fan of props, I think that the natural landscape, paired with the right lighting yields all the magic needed for a photo. Honestly it doesn't matter where you are. I love the shadows on the lifeguard chair and the sun kissed faces. Being little is so darn precious. Now my clients have a little piece of summer forever.

Didn't make it to this year's beach mini... Don't worry...two mini's coming in the fall. One to play with the autumn leaves and of course holiday mini's. Stay tuned by following Jamie Kaminski Photography on FaceBook.

Beach Mini's Tomorrow!! One space available

I took my boys to Wawayanda State Park tonight to check out the light for tomorrow's beach mini's. I always think it's funny when people are nervous about if their kids will listen or not. Please note Quaid's older brother Gavin is NOT in these pictures....well his legs made it in! He just wanted to run as fast as he could into me so....BELIEVE ME my boys give me a run for my money and you needn't EVER worry about behavior...or sensory issues, or eye contact...got, get it, no problem. I will however always suggest an extra outfit!

The images above are of our youngest son Quaid from tonight at Wawayanda State Park. The kids ate dinner in the car, while I was waiting for the rain to pass...my husband puts up with so much ;)

Mommy Photo

I recently had a discussion online of course with two friends I made at grad school. I respect both of their opinions greatly. I was inquiring if one of my previous photo's was worthy of entering into a art show etc. or if it was a Mommy photo. The general tone was that it was a Mommy photo. I was appreciative of the input and it sent my head into a whirlwind. I don't think I necessarily agreed, although I understood the perspective. The truth is I don't know how to label my images anymore and I am not so interested in doing so right now. I am a mother, I am a photographer. I have always pointed my lense towards curiosities, environments and people that consume my thoughts. In 2012 my kids make the top of the list. I think it would be unfortunate for an artist, particularly a mother not to focus on the biggest journey of one's life..motherhood. While it doesn't define me entire being, it threads through every movement I make. So my new goal is to make sure I photograph my boys every week and after awhile see what comes of these images. Art or Mommy photo, as long as I am creating it doesn't really matter to me.....

The image above titled, "My Indecisive Moment" from this morning. I grappled with yelling at them for moving the furniture, jumping etc or to shoot it. Photography wins..it always does...

Life is in the details... here's to the NEW Mr. and Mrs. B!

I had the honor of assisting Rachel Leib Photography (www.rachelleib.com) at this beautiful wedding. My focus was on the details. This was a great opportunity for me to photograph and not have to be concerned with the whole picture, but small details of the big picture The new Mr. and Mrs. B are teachers, so as place cards they used #2 pencils in Mason Jars with tags that directed guests to an assigned table. Each table was named after a class written on a chalk board...of course I was partial to art class...but of course. One of the many hats I wear is that I am also an art teacher. The beautiful purple and yellow flowers (complementary colors for my art students out there) were stunning. I am always impressed with the shoes women wear. I myself have never been able to wear heels....they are so darn pretty, so I had to grab a photograph of them. The groomsmen were given these awesome beer mugs that looked like wood and yes I  do really like the hand tattoo.

Here's the link to the beautiful portraits created by Rachel Leib Photography.   https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151073413323950.459801.359382543949&type=1

Rachel and I always have a great time working together. We are a very busy duo this fall so follow us. Wishing the B's all the best.

My new FAVORITE personal family photo

"A perfect summer day to a little boy means, a scrape on the knee, mud on his face and collecting bugs in garden." borrowed from sweetannies 28

All of which we achieved, while on Cape Cod.
But my favorite photo from vacation comes at the end of the day, so to the quote above I add....

A mother's perfect day ends with her little one's enjoying an outdoor shower.
A moment of innocence forever engraved in my heart.

This is the type of image that will help me remember this sweetness in years to come. I LOVE this photo..... I do.
