Skate Park Poems DON'T Lie

Today I lit it Up Blue by doing a photo session swap with Julia. As serendipity would have it we met at a lecture by Temple Grandin on Autism. She asked Dr.Grandin how she could work on her interview skills for employment as she wants to be a photographer...(well she already is but she's back in NY from Georgia.) Out of an entire packed auditorium we, by chance,were seated by each other.

One of the reason I love photography so much is because its where all my worlds collide. My job as an art teacher has lead me to a path of most recently needing to know a bit of Spanish. I love learning, teaching, exchanging. What units all these passions photography, education etc. is communication.  With Julia it is with the challenges of Autism, with a student in may be a language barrier. Neither have anything to do with intelligence...both exceptionally brave. To hold your head high and tackle each hurdle, even when you feel alone.....I only aspire to be so bold.

So why...why swap photo's with Julia, why practice diligently on a Spanish app on my phone each night? We all want to be understood, we all have a gift we bring to the table. Photography is its own language. I bring my A game because I expect an A game for my both my sons. Q who is on the spectrum has reaped the benefits of such fabulous teachers, but we are all teachers.

From this shoot Julia reminds me to keep it real and when people try and place limitations on you or others... the skate park poems do not lie. "F@ck the world, F@ckem all".  Be real, find your authentic voice in what ever language that may be...French, English, painting, music you decide.

Just What Brothers do

For the first time, in what has to be years my husband and I woke up and neither one of our boys made their way into our bed around 5am like they usually do. I remember hearing my little one cry in the middle of the night, but unlike most nights I didn't rush in... I let him cry a little... even though I feared he would wake up his older brother on the top bunk. My husband and I raced into their rooms this morning with that nervous feeling of somethings wrong..you know what I am talking about. Much to our delight we found our oldest snuggling our youngest in the bottom bunk. When Gavin woke we asked if he heard Quaid cry in the middle of the night. He said, "Yes. So I climbed down and snuggled with him. I wanted to make him feel better. That's just what brothers do. " My big little man Gavin is something else I tell you. With all the crap autism spectrum disorders can dump on a family it does have its shining moments. This being a most recent example. Gavin has always been a love, but in learning about his brothers differences, Gavin has developed by fate, choice and design into a very caring six year old boy. I see him help often and I see how proud the spirit of giving gives him. It is an instrumental lesson that our quirky little family gives him. Just what brothers do.....can I lock that in a bottle forever?

Getting Ready

Here are some shots of the new Mrs. B getting ready. I always find this part fun. The rush, the emotion... no one noticing what I see... the glances, hand holding and gestures. Life is in the details. I just love the hanger, the handpicked flowers and her curls so sleek. The father of the bride beamed with pride, her mother and sister clearly excited. This bride has a natural, elegant beauty that radiated on this day.  We were running a bit behind, but hey the wedding doesn't start without the bride. I love how the groom is keeping his cool waiting for his lady. He kept looking around with a eager grin, rubbing his hands together.  His best "WO"man, his sister, offers a pat on the back to remind him to be in the here & now while they share a few nervous laughs.. I will post more of this journey in a few....

meet the "E" Family

I met the "E" family at Bear Mountain State Park. They received a gift certificate for Jamie Kaminski Photography at a golf outing supporting the Ed Wallace Memorial Foundation.
(www.edwallacememorial.org) This foundation supports families in Orange County, NY facing a crisis and was organized by Ed's family.
My first impression of these two kiddos was WOW cheecks!!! They both have the kind you wanna pinch and squeeze! We walked around the zoo and yes I did lean over the bear fence for the photograph above....dedication.....or as her look would suggest what are you doing? My inner voice said...love... when I saw the picture of this little lady dancing with her shadow...it's moments like these that move way too fast. Little Miss "L" pretended to be shy, but as you can see she has sass. Little Mr."G" was a helpful big brother I can hardly take his little handsome head popping out from his baby sisters pig tails. Thank you for supporting this special organization, it was a pleasure to photograph your beautiful smiles.

Meet the "V" family & their smiley sleepy baby!

The latest addition to this gang clearly makes their circle complete. This little man and his beautiful big sister, make for two proud parents. This Daddy was beaming and the Mom was so relaxed...why wouldn't she be her little guy smiles in his sleep...for real? Coming from a mom of two colicky boys...yes I am a wee bit jealous of this. Baby "J's" fresh baby skin, next to tanned L.B.I. faces is a winning combination. Their daughter's eyes match the comforter...and are simply gorgeous! XOXO to this Family!
