"The very things that hold you down are going to lift you up"

I don't know how it happened but my little man turned 5. We had his party a bit early... before the school rush and to enjoy the warm weather. This past summer Quaid watched the movie Dumbo. After seeing it once, he continued to bring me the movie over and over, to request to watch it again and again over the course of several summer weeks. One night I took a break from my routine of loading the dishwasher, as my children watched a show and actually joined....The message from Dumbo, "the very things that hold you down are going to lift you up".....wow...I could have cried... ok I did. It was like Quaid was telling me hey ma, don't worry so much, I got this. Of all the worries with parenthood, perhaps one of the largest when dealing with the challenges of Autism Spectrum Disorder is the "Will he have any friends, will the world love him and enjoy him as much as I do?"As I looked around his birthday party I took a brief moment to soak it in... and I realized I could ditch that fear. This little boy has been blessed with many cousins, his first friends who have loved him, included him and embraced him. Never mind his proud, protective big brother, who is relentless at getting him to try and use his words and his best cuddle buddy. So goodbye fear...while I'm sure you will be replaced in this thing called parenthood, today I celebrate 5 years of loving my Quaid Thomas...my QT...my Quaidy....making his own trail.

Getting Ready

Here are some shots of the new Mrs. B getting ready. I always find this part fun. The rush, the emotion... no one noticing what I see... the glances, hand holding and gestures. Life is in the details. I just love the hanger, the handpicked flowers and her curls so sleek. The father of the bride beamed with pride, her mother and sister clearly excited. This bride has a natural, elegant beauty that radiated on this day.  We were running a bit behind, but hey the wedding doesn't start without the bride. I love how the groom is keeping his cool waiting for his lady. He kept looking around with a eager grin, rubbing his hands together.  His best "WO"man, his sister, offers a pat on the back to remind him to be in the here & now while they share a few nervous laughs.. I will post more of this journey in a few....

I Love You

Today was a polar day. I have waited anxiously since my little Q was born to hear him whisper," I love you" to me. It has been a 3 1/2 year wait. Today he looked up at me with his baby blues that warm your soul and said I love you. His words were not terribly clear, but his tone, inflection and purpose all understood by me his first love.

Today my Grandmother who we have always referred to as, "Mame" suffered a stroke. Her speech is lost and her babble is not understood.

There are about 95 years that separate these two loves of mine.

I have never really been able to articulate my feelings on my own spirituality, but todays events come close to how I understand the world.

His voice needed a space and she gave it to him.

The photo above was taken at Cape Cod Summer 2011.. Mame and Q took a nap together. Mame has never been good about hiding who her favorite is. Q takes the cake! Although we all (especially my husband) could do without her calling him Pussycat.

Bribe

So how did I get my oldest son to behave in the car, while I photographed lettuce on the side of the road at 6:50 am in the rain...I bribed him! No fancy tricks here...just a camera, a vision and a plan. Side note this kids diet is super monitored, so this sugary treat was a REAL treat and side note #2 I ate Lucky Charms ALL the time when I was pregnant with him sooooo..I guess he was born to love them.

Daydream

I spent a good portion of rainy today dreaming of being on Cape Cod...luckily this time is approaching. My little man pictured above last summer...God he drove me a bit crazy tonight and he's so darn peaceful in this photo....I think it's the saltwater, ocean air. I swear it calms him!  As for my other little man he refuses to wear clothes right now. I have re- clothed him in PJ's three times tonight already sooo..I quit.....I won't post that good time right now.
